Gaza Rally Outside Israeli Consulate |
|
by Patrick Keaney, patkeaney (nospam) gmail.com |
On the fourth day of Israel’s bombing campaign in Gaza, hundreds of Bostonians turned out to a rally to demonstrate their solidarity with the Palestinian people. The rally, which was organized by a coalition of pro-Palestinian groups, took place in front of the office building that houses the Israeli Consulate’s office in Boston’s Back Bay. The spirited rally was followed by a boisterous march from the Israeli Consulate to Copley Square, where preparations for Boston’s First Night were underway.

Local Actions in Solidarity with Gaza |
|
by BIMC Editors, |
On Monday, actions in solidarity with Gaza occurred in several locations around Boston. In Cambridge, about 100 people showed up with signs (see article from Open Media Boston below). The number of people was smaller in Roxbury Crossing, but they still made their presence. A larger rally and march has been planned in downtown Boston for Tuesday afternoon to join a National Day of Action.

A Mayoral Directive and a Boston City Council Order for the More Routine Transmittal of City Public Documents |
|
by don warner saklad, don.saklad (nospam) gmail.com |
History is what you think of when you think of the city of Boston. Yet the history of city hall departments needs to be made more accessible to those of us with strong interests in municipal governmental history. Routinely public access is deflected or blocked for public meetings and to public records regardless of what officials claim about transparency.
A Mayoral Directive and a Boston City Council Order are needed for the more routine transmittal of public city documents to our Government Documents Department http://bpl.org/research/govdocs/local.htm of Boston Public Library. In addition to the city http://www.cityofboston.gov/archivesandrecords/ archives http://www.orgsites.com/ma/boston-friends/index.html city departments keep their own archives but deflect interest when approached. |

Banner Drop Over Storrow Drive in Support of Palestinians |
|
by BAAM, |
Today before the evening rush, activists dropped a banner that read "The Real Terrorists: The US & Israel." The action was done in support of the Palestinian people in Gaza and in the West Bank who are currently under attack by the Israeli Military. WIth the increasing violence against unarmed civilians in Gaza, it is important to be aware of the support that the US government gives to the Israeli Military, including supplying them with "bunker buster" bombs which have been used in the last three days of attacks, which have killed over 315 people. |

Fashionable Death in Gaza |
|
by Maha Zimmo, maha.is (nospam) mac.com |
As we enjoy the usual holiday season of excesses which make those of the Roman empire appear minor, as we gorge ourselves on food and drink and gifts, we might spare a moment of reflection for those who are suffering on the periphery of 'news' worthiness. Our thoughts should turn to what is happening in Palestine.
The last 48 hours has been witness to one of the greatest and most violent attacks levelled by the State of Israel against the civilian population of Gaza. The 'security compounds' which are being targeted by the IDF are, for the most part, government run bodies such as the police station, and a mosque (which is not government run). Suffice it to say that when a Canadian works for the Federal Government today, they are not by default a Conservative, and a Muslim in any part of the world, is not a de facto Hamas supporter, not even if they are Palestinian.
Israeli spokespeople explain that their current air strikes are a defensive response to the rocket attacks fired from amongst a civilian population who is being used by Hamas militants as human shields. The audience is meant to believe that Israel's superior air power, which is backed by both the money and hardware of the USA, the world's most formidable military power today, is equal to the rocket attacks launched by some Palestinians. More importantly, this same audience is meant to believe that yesterday's actions by Israel are acceptable; that the death of one Israeli is equal to the death of over 280 Palestinians and 600 wounded. I excelled in mathematics, and for the life of me can not perform enough arithmetically inclined acrobatics to make this last sentence acceptable.
Unfortunately, the death toll I mention only covers the situation over the last 48 hours, and contextualization here is key. |

Protests in Boston Against Israel's Attacks on Gaza |
|
by Sofia Jarrin, sofiajt (nospam) yahoo.com |
A day after Israel's air raids on Gaza, which claimed at least 290 lives and more than 900 wounded according to the Palestine News Network (http://english.pnn.ps/), a coalition of groups in Boston gathered on Park Street to protest Israel's aggression. Protests have been carried out in several cities in the United States and around the world.
Haaretz, one of Israel's main newspapers, reported that the attacks had been in the planning for months. Hundreds in Tel Aviv came out to protest the bombings saying that military action against Gaza does nothing to improve security in Israel.

Give Your Children the Gift of Truth this Christmas |
|
by sd, |
|
Between the middle 1800s and the early 1900s, the desire to sell magazines merged with two historical tales, one from the pagan Germanic past and the other from Christan lore, to form the Santa Claus memeplex. The memeplex quickly morphed into a capitalist dream that, once saddled upon the working class, turned a nation into insatiable consumers and gave reason to the production of frivolous goods. A new religion was born and children everywhere began to pray to Santa - a super-hero-like being, an über-elf, the Führer of naughty and nice. |
