SITTING FOR PEACE: Engaged Buddhists Sit For Peace
Those activists attending the weekly peace vigils in Copley Square may have seen something a little unusual in the past few weeks. Across the street from the main vigil, near the Boston Public Library, a group of Buddhists have been meditating for peace, sitting in the cold on the sidewalk in silence, holding up a banner reading “Sitting for Peace”.

NADER RALLY: Ralph Nader Rally Held at Orpheum Theatre
Ex-Presidential Candidate Ralph NaderNew England activists and curious Ralph Nader supporters packed the Orpheum Theatre in Boston Saturday night in a five-hour rally and fundraiser that mixed the big marquee names of Nader and Patti Smith with the Boston line-up of usual suspects in the "anti-globalization" scene.

SPOOKY STAPLES ACTION: Trick or Treating in Staples CEO Tom Stemberg's Neighborhood
Dressed as the ghosts of old growth trees, cut down for paper, local activists went trick-or-treating in Staples CEO Tom Stemberg's neighborhood. Staples uses virtually no recycled paper. The trick-or-treaters gave out treats- flyers explaining what they were doing and candy. Overall, they received no hostility and a lot of positive reactions.

CHOMSKY SPEAKS AT MIT: Noam Chomsky Speaks on War on Terrorism
Professor Noam ChomskyOn October 18, Professor Noam Chomsky spoke at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. MIT's Technology and Culture forum ( web.mit.edu/tac) presented Chomsky as he gave a lecture on the "war on terrorism." Thousands of people attended the event, as the main hall and three of the overflow rooms (with live video) were completely filled. The talk was also broadcast on the web.

DAY 2: Peace Vigils, Rallies in Boston and Cambridge
The Day After, Boston residents express feelings of caution, calls for peace, and demands for war. Wednesday evening at 6:00 in Copley Square in Boston and Harvard Square in Cambridge, large vigils were held mourning for the dead in yesterday’s terrorist attacks and also calling on the US government not to respond to the attacks with more violence. At the same time an initially small nationalist rally in Park Street in Boston turned into a large crowd.
